The Fashion Show

So I am embarrassed to say that I just recently fell in love with Project Runway. I never actually got a chance to sit down and watch it every week with my busy schedule as full-time mommy/college student. Now that its summertime I get the opportunity to catch up on the show which is absolutely brilliant and inspiring to me as an aspiring designer. Just recently, however, Bravo TV launched a new show called of all things, The Fashion Show. Yes, this is another show about established designers competing to get a chance to sell their designs and get their names out there in the fashion world, hoping to one day roll with the big dogs. But even with all these reality shows about fashion designers and supermodels, one can never get bored. The Fashion show is hosted by the quirky yet talented designer Isaac Mizrahi and the former Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland. Together these two make an awesome team, full of humor and fashion knowledge. What I like is that Kelly isn't just a pretty face to compliment Isaac, she voices her opinion and also exhibits knowledge about the fashion industry. They also brought in Fern Malis, former Executive Director of the CFDA and current Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion...need I say more?I absolutely love this show! Each week the designers are of course given a challenge to compete and the winner gets their creation sold on the website, quite similar to Project Runway. Designers Johnny R., Reco, and James-Paul have caught my eye. They all have their own unique style and pull off each piece for each challenge with flawless effort. The Fashion Show is an awesome inside look at how these artists have to challenge themselves at all times and stay on top of their game if they want to become a household name. Bravo to Bravo TV:-)

Ruffle N' Flow

Ruffles and flowing tops are staples this Spring. Here to stay for yet another fashionable season are the shirt dress and the tunic. Dress up either one of these hot commodities with a metallic belt that adds flare for a hot date or let them flow loosely for a laid-back, yet chic look fit for a lunch date with the girls. The revival of harem pants is also in full effect for Spring!! These aren't your typical Hammer pants from the eighties ladies. Some feel the harem jumpsuit is a fashion disaster but I think its sheer genius; the love child of elegance and comfortability. The best are the wrap-around trouser jumpsuits because they aren't overly baggy in the thighs, adding just the right amount of flattery to a woman's curves. Pair these soft and flowing pants up with gladiator heels or platforms and accessorize with a couple stacked bangles. If you're on a budget, Forever 21 has harem pants starting as low as $15.80 and Target.com has tunic tops on clearance for just $5.00

What is Style?

I view style as one's artistic outlet through which they can exude an overall sense of self. Whether it be music, fashion, or art, a person can develop a style all their own that best portrays their personality. Style can be thought of as a medium through which people pass on their thoughts, beliefs and emotions oftentimes in hopes of inspiration. This blog site is specifically dedicated to fashion: an industry that clearly exudes style and creativity. Every designer has their own sense of style that they use to inspire consumers to not just buy their products, but to develop their own sense of style. Inspiration to discover your likes and dislikes, a sense of empowerment in order to take control and wear what YOU like, not necessarily what everyone else does...Rock your skinny jeans with your fav high top Nikes, go ahead and throw some suspenders on your leggings, you may even prefer the grunge look from the nineties. Whatever it may be, take the initiative to find yours and when you do: embrace, live, and most of all heart your style.
